Current Victorian Junior Dirt Track U16 250cc Champion, Joe Harvey who turned 16 a fortnight ago, entered his first senior Supermoto race this weekend at Oran Park . Instead of camping at the track as he and his father, Martin, always do at race meetings (Oran Park does not allow this), they stayed with other competitors at the Narrellan Motor Inn. This luxury proved expensive as on top of the $105 to sleep there, during the night their Hiace commuter bus , two 2005 YZF250's and a van load of parts and stock were stolen. Also stolen from nearby was an Isuzu truck with 6 bikes in it and a trailer with another bike. The thieves drove to a nearby industrial estate where they unloaded the bikes, some spares and burnt the rest. A stunned Martin Harvey went through charred remains to find, burnt & bent sprockets, brake discs, a brake caliper, handlebars some leathers, and more. Even with the bikes missing they managed to burn more value than they stole, the horrific waste still not sunk in. Everything including the van was uninsured.

Within minutes of competitors knowing, the impossible had been done and Joe rode the day on Stuart Bennett's spare KTM 450. "I cannot thank Stuart enough, as well as the Normoyle boys, Jay and Warren, Glen "Macca" Macdonald and Adam Altham, who together got me out there" said Joe. On a bike he'd never ridden before, after being awake half the night (they'd called police at 4am) and totally distraught, he consistently placed midfield in the expert class having a superb race with Jay Normoyle in the last round,

So far in 2005 Joe had taken his Stafford Motorcycles Yamaha YZF's to a win in the Yamaha Supermoto Masters at Calder, 3rd at the KTM Cup at Bathurst, wins in all Victorian Dirttrack, competed at the Roost Rookies MX at Coolum QLD and Newcastle and won his first senior race meeting the week before, an MX event at his home club, Rosebud.
